Teller County is comprised of Woodland Park, Divide,
Florissant, Cripple Creek, Victor and large areas of rural unincorporated land. The county
is home to approximately 75% full-time residents
and 25% second-home owners. Approximately 50% of
the population work in the county and the remaining half
commute to Colorado Springs. Beyond the statistics, if
you love the outdoors, breathtaking beauty of the
mountains and tranquility of a small town environment, then one
of these communities might be just right for you.
Woodland Park
With an approximate population of
8,500 residents, Woodland Park offers small town character
combined with modern convenience. From fast-food
and a mom & pop movie theatre to fine dining and
a dinosaur museum, Woodland Park seems to have it all.
Of course, the fact that the overwhelming and beautiful view of Pikes
Peak can be seen from most parts town is also a major benefit. Woodland
Park is also home to the county high school, middle school
and two elementary schools along with a few private facilities.
Most impressive is the continuous community efforts to retain and
improve every aspect of the town’s charm and appeal.
Visit the Woodland Park Chamber of Commerce for
information on the Downtown Development project
which features new restaurants, a recreation facility,
and many other exciting additions to the city, coming in the near future.
Cripple Creek & Victor
Cripple Creek is known as the 'World’s Greatest Gold Camp.' One of
the largest operating gold mining facilities
in the world, Cripple Creek and Victor were
once on the map as one of the largest cities
in Colorado. History buffs and casino gurus
love this area with its limited-stakes gaming
and old-west theme. Thousands flock to the towns
daily for seasonal events such as the Donkey Derby
races and the Veteran's Bike Rally. The area houses
approximately 2,000 residents over the two towns.
Florissant
On the far west side, Florissant
is the most rural area in Teller County. If
you like peace, tranquility and a very small town
atmosphere, this is the place to be. Thickly saturated
with forested areas and awesome rock-outcroppings, this
area attracts many hikers, bikers and horseback riders.
Main draws are the Pikes Peak State Forest and the Florissant Fossil Beds.
Divide
The most centralized town in the county, Divide
is a main hub for many of the county's facilities: Sheriff’s
office & jail, vehicle maintenance and animal control.
The town spreads in several directions and is one
of the fastest growing communities in the region. The
locals of Divide love the scenery, wildlife, and tranquility of the area.
