The southwestern face of the summit of Pikes Peak just does not
get the same amount of respect and admiration as its other sides. The dome-like shape
of the eastern side that faces Colorado Springs is much more recognizable
and photographed. Also, the steep north face known as the "Bottomless Pit"
is quite distinct in places like Woodland Park, the Rampart Range Mountains and northern points as far as Denver.
One can notice the very top switchbacks of the Pikes Peak Highway
from this vicinity in southern Teller County, and the view includes some of the surrounding
mountains that reach above timberline that buttress Pikes Peak to the west and southwest.
I took this picture on Teller County Road 81, just a mile or two north
of the town of Victor. If you love photographing beautiful Colorado mountains and are in the area ... check it out! ;)
A few other Teller County pictorials: The Crags, Skaguay Reservoir, Frog Rock, Mt. Pisgah Parking Lot.
